Care inc. is a community organisation set up to ensure low income consumers are treated fairly and have support to overcome debt.
About the CLC
The CLC is a non-profit community legal centre that provides free legal advice and assistance to low and moderate income consumers. We specialise in the areas of consumer credit (mortgages, credit cards and personal loans), debt recovery, banking, simple contracts, general fair trading and consumer protection.
In addition to direct client work, the CLC works towards improving legal protection for consumers, and raising awareness and understanding of consumer’s rights in the ACT through community education and outreach. The CLC also makes regular submissions to government with the aim of improving access to justice for our community’s vulnerable and disadvantaged.
For the Consumer Law Centre to meet and maintain its accreditation requirements, it operates strict information barriers with the rest of Care Inc. services.
The Consumer Law Centre does not share client information with the Care Financial Counselling Team or No Interest Loan Scheme. The Consumer Law Centre has separate staff, offices, databases and information security processes. Clients can be referred from one service to the other and information can be shared with the consent of the client.
The centre is a free independent community legal centre funded by the ACT Government.
Phone: (02) 6143 0044
The Consumer Law Centre operates a telephone advice line Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 2.00 pm — 4.00 pm.
The Consumer Law Centre of the ACT (the CLC) is committed to ensuring that any person or organisation using the CLC services or affected by its operations has the right to lodge a complaint or to appeal a decision of the organisation and to have their concerns addressed in ways that ensure access and equity, fairness, accountability and transparency.
