ACAT Duty Service
Going to ACAT for a consumer or credit law matter?
Care Consumer Law operates a duty service at the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Care can provide free legal advice, assistance in conciliation conferences and representation in the following areas:

Consumer protection and contract law (disputes relating to sale of goods and services, consumer guarantees and unfair contract terms),
-
Debt recovery (when there is a default judgment against you, or you are contacted by creditors or debt collectors, or served with legal documents about a debt), and
-
Consumer credit (mortgages, credit cards, personal loans, consumer leases, insurance), payday loans and BNPL.
We can assist individual consumers to resolve problems with financial service providers (such as banks), telecommunication companies, and other businesses and traders, including sole traders. We are not able to assist businesses or in private disputes between individuals.
We can also provide general information and legal advice on Motor Accident Injuries applications. Please note, however, that we are not able to assist in conciliation conferences or provide representation services on Motor Accident Injuries disputes.
